Dulce De Leche Recipe

DULCE DE LECHE (SQUARE MILK) DESSERT

How to cook Dulce De Leche

Method 1

Dulce De Leche Contents:

1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
1/4 tsp baking soda (optional)

Dulce De Leche Preparation of:

Remove the label from the can of sweetened condensed milk and add the baking soda (if using). This step is optional but it helps to prevent the can from bursting during the cooking process.
Place the can in a large pot or dutch oven and fill the pot with enough water to cover the can by at least 2 inches.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat and then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours, making sure to add more water to the pot as needed to keep the can covered. The simmering process will caramelize the sugar in the sweetened condensed milk, creating the dulce de leche.
Remove the can from the pot and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before opening.
Once cool, open the can and spoon out the dulce de leche.
Alternatively, you can make dulce de leche using the following methods:

Slow Cooker: Follow the same steps as above, but instead of using a pot on the stove, place the can in a slow cooker filled with water and cook on low for 8-12 hours.
Pressure Cooker: Place the can in a pressure cooker and add enough water to cover the can. Cook on high pressure for 40-60 minutes. Let the pressure release naturally before opening the can.
It's always recommended to be very careful when opening the can, as the dulce de leche will be extremely hot.

Method 2

Dulce De Leche Contents 2:

Traditional dulce de leche is made using sweetened condensed milk, which already contains sugar. However, you can also make dulce de leche using regular milk and sugar. Here's an alternative recipe that includes sugar as an ingredient:

1 liter of whole milk
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 tsp baking soda (optional)
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Dulce De Leche Preparation of 2:

In a heavy-bottomed pot, mix together the milk and sugar.
Add in the baking soda (if using) and vanilla extract (if using).
Place the pot over medium-low heat and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves.
Once the sugar has dissolved, turn the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and turns a caramel color.
Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool before using or storing in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
This recipe can also be made in a slow cooker or pressure cooker by following the same instructions as the previous recipe, but with the addition of sugar.

It's important to keep an eye on the pot while it's simmering, as the mixture can easily burn. And also keep in mind that this recipe will take more time than the previous one.

Enjoy your homemade Dulce de Leche!

About Dulce De Leche Country

Dulce de leche is a traditional sweet treat that is popular in many Latin American countries, as well as in Spain. It is made by simmering sweetened condensed milk or regular milk and sugar until it thickens and turns a caramel color. The name "dulce de leche" is Spanish and translates to "sweet milk" in English.

The origin of dulce de leche is believed to be from the pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilizations, where a similar treat was made by simmering ground corn in water. With the arrival of the Spanish in the Americas, the recipe was modified to use cow's milk instead of corn and sugar was added to sweeten it.

Dulce de leche is particularly popular in Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile, where it is often used as a spread for toast, as a filling for pastries and cakes, or as a topping for ice cream. In Mexico, a similar treat called cajeta is popular, which is made by simmering goat's milk instead of cow's milk. In Brazil, a similar treat called doce de leite is popular which is similar to Dulce de Leche.

Dulce de leche can be found in most Latin American markets and some international grocery stores, as well as it can be made at home by following one of the recipes provided earlier.
